Malaysia’s Tourism Ministry is to promote new sectors including sport and railways, in a bid to attract more visitors to the country.

Tourism Minister Dr. Ng Yen Yen told reporters that scenic railway trips, for example, are increasingly popular and that several stations would be upgraded to draw more tourists. “Travelling by train to various states especially Kelantan will be a unique experience, which would enable tourists to sample the cultures of the people,” she told reporters.

She added that Kelantan offers visitors tropical rainforest, waterfalls, a national park, exotic dishes, and arts and culture.

The Minister also said that Malaysia would continue to promote the Homestay programme and the “Malaysia My Second Home” programme.
