Malaysia to rein in spending says PM

October 5, 2009 by: editor

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak says that the government needs to be “mindful” of its spending to cut the budget deficit.

He said that the government may cut its operating expenditure and is considering broadening the tax base.

The Prime Minister added that stimulus spending cannot carry on indefinitely but he said, “We are committed to do this until the middle or towards the end of 2010. Beyond that we are hoping that the external economic environment would have improved considerably.”

The government will provide an updated forecast of growth for 2010 in the budget, which will be revealed next month.
