Halal industry to rise to $655 billion in 2010

Research from the World Halal Forum indicates that the global Halal industry will be worth $655 billion next year up from $635 billion this year.
Speaking at the 4th World Halal Forum dinner, former Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi, said, “as the global economy grows and consumers’ purchasing power increases, demand for Halal food will in turn increase.”
Badawi added that Halal will increasingly become the choice not only for Muslim consumers but also for non Muslims and he added that Malaysia has a major role to play in the promotion of Halal products internationally and in the development of international Halal standards and certification.
