Ice hockey federation targets Malaysia
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) says that it is committed to developing the sport in Asian countries including Malaysia. The organisation has already opened an office in Tokyo and the sport is growing in China. Rene Fasel, head of the Federation says, “It is not easy growing the game in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Korea but the people can grow a passion for the sport.”

Malaysian victory at Doha regatta
Malaysia sailed to victory in the Optimist open category at the Qatar International Regatta in Doha. Mohd Afendy Abdullah, general manager of the Malaysian Yachting Association said Ahmad Latif Khan took the top spot while his fellow Malaysians Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz, Muhamad Faizal Norizan and Muhamad Farhan Hamid finished second, third and fourth. “Overall, Malaysia emerged as runners-up, which is an outstanding achievement,” he said. More than 200 competitors took part from 12 different countries including Australia, New Zealand and India.

Malaysia to target more Japanese tourists
Malaysia aims to attract more tourists from Japan by targeting the country’s secondary cities. Until now, Malaysia has focused promotions in the biggest cities – Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto but Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen said “We missed a lot (in promotion)…to second-line cities and associations for professionals like doctors or medical practitioners. Malaysia to host Polo World Cup qualifier in 2011
Malaysia has won its bid to host the qualifying rounds of one zone of the ninth Polo World Cup next year. Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, president of the Royal Malaysian Polo Association, said Malaysia would host the Zone D qualifying rounds of the premier international tournament in June 2011. Malaysia faces competition in Asian Games bid
Competition to host the 2019 Asian Games (Asiad) is intensifying as Malaysia faces new competition from Vietnam which has put in its bid to host the event. News of the challenge from Vietnam came on the day Malaysia lost its bid to host the 2013 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Congress to the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. Asean nations launch joint tourism campaign
Malaysia has joined forces with the nine other Asean nations to launch a new tourism campaign for the region based around the slogan, “Southeast Asia: feel the warmth.” The campaign will be supported by a dynamic, interactive website SoutheastAsia.org. It will target tourists in medium and long haul markets such as the UK, Australia, India, North America and Hong Kong. Malaysian Tourism looks at new areas
Malaysia’s Tourism Ministry is to promote new sectors including sport and railways, in a bid to attract more visitors to the country. Malaysia bids to host 2013 IOC Congress
Malaysia has submitted bids to host the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) congress in 2013 and the 2019 Asian Games for the first time. The Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) secretary Sieh Kok Chi said, ”The outcome of the IOC congress will be known soon but the results for the 2019 Asian Games host job would only be known by 2012. PGA Tour will come to Malaysia next year, says PM
Malaysia will host the PGA Tour next year and will become the first South East Asian nation to take part in the prestigious golf competition. Malaysian golf tourism on the rise, says survey
Global market research consultancy, Euromonitor, says that golf tourism in Asia is bucking the global recession. It says that the rising standard of living across many Asian countries and the development of tourism infrastructure has brought in high spending tourists.
