Malaysia is in talks with Indonesia about possible co-operation on developing both nations’ defence industries. Malaysia leader in Apac contact centres

Malaysia’s multi-lingual population is driving the country’s growth in the contact centre market in Asia Pacific (Apac) according to Interactive Intelligence Inc, a global business telecoms provider. It says that Malaysia is on track to become the market leader in the region with an estimated market size of RM94 million this year and that Malaysia’s contact – or call centre – business is expected to grow 20 percent to 25 percent in 2010. Malaysia to expand broadband to rural areas

Malaysia plans to expand mobile broadband to rural areas says Information Communication and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim. The Minister said that by August, broadband coverage would be expanded nationwide and that community internet clubs would be set up in villages across the country . 
”We will carry this out in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia and several telcos,” he said.

$468 million in potential deals from India

Malaysia and India are looking at some $468 million worth of potential trade following Malaysian Prime Minster Najib Razak’s visit to India last month. Mustapa Mohamed, Malaysia’s Minister for International Trade and Industry said a new round of talks will take place in late March and if the investments come to fruition then they will boost Malaysia’s economy. “We want to see the projects come to fruition in the near future,” Mustapa said adding his ministry will monitor the progress once every four months.

KKIP increasingly attractive to foreign investors

The Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) is becoming an attractive destination for major foreign investors, says Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. He said that at least four big investors are expected to make investments worth billions of ringgit in the next two years. Malaysia’s rich list revealed

Malaysia’s 40 richest people saw their fortunes increase last year and they became collectively worth RM156.7 billion as at January 15, up 63 per cent on last year’s figure, according to a “Malaysian Business” survey. The wealth of the Top 40 was calculated based on the value of their stakes in listed companies. The survey also revealed almost half of those in the top forty saw their wealth increase by 50 per cent or more, thanks to the rise in stocks. Minister calls for more post grad R&D courses

Malaysia’s private institutions of higher learning are being encouraged to offer more research and development post-graduate courses and programmes by Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordi. Malaysia aims for 24 million tourists in 2010

Malaysia has set a target to attract 24 million tourists in 2010 and a goal of RM54 billion in tourist spending, says Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen. While many countries saw a decline in tourist arrivals in 2009, due to the global economic crisis, Malaysia’s increased slightly over 7 percent to 23.6 million tourists who spent an estimated  RM51 billion. Malaysian victory at Doha regatta

Malaysia sailed to victory in the Optimist open category at the Qatar International Regatta in Doha. Mohd Afendy Abdullah, general manager of the Malaysian Yachting Association said Ahmad Latif Khan took the top spot while his fellow Malaysians Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz, Muhamad Faizal Norizan and Muhamad Farhan Hamid finished second, third and fourth. “Overall, Malaysia emerged as runners-up, which is an outstanding achievement,” he said.
